Picked this up from Sankaku Complex

What could be wrong with this picture? The laws of physics and the reflection of light don’t seem to apply in this scene. Or maybe Natsuru just looks exactly the same from the back as the front. Then again… Kampfer is a show in which the main character can swap genders, so you gotta expect the rest of the world to be odd as well. Didn’t even notice this when watching the episode, but I think I was too busy laughing to notice small details at the time.

This episode also has one of the coolest eyecatch illustrations I have seen which is included in the gallery.

A Few Words On Saki [Anime Review]

Okay, so I watched every episode of Saki last week just because I keep hearing so much about it. The few words I have to say are: I don’t get it. It’s not the show that I don’t get… It’s why the show is so popular. Now don’t get me wrong… I’m not saying it’s a bad show, and it’s got some great characters, but it doesn’t really stand out like you would expect for a show people are raving about. I described this after a few episodes as being like Angelic Layer with mahjong and boobs… And after watching it I have to say my opinion hasn’t really changed.

I guess I assumed this was going to be some slice of life anime centered around mahjong, but it seems they forgot to include the slice of life part. The show is literally about mahjong and very little else. To me the best parts of the show happened whenever they weren’t playing mahjong, but those parts were few and far between. Maybe it’s just me, but mahjong is a rather boring game and adding quasi super powers doesn’t really up the watchability factor. It’s kind of like watching poker on TV and I still can’t understand why anyone does that either. It confuses me to no end which makes me wonder if this show is popular strictly for the characters rather than the plot because in all honesty if it wasn’t for Tacos and Koromo I probably would have stopped watching after just a few episodes.

Maybe it’s just me… I was really expecting more from the show after all I’ve heard, but spent most of the time waiting for some plot to develop which never came. It simply seemed more and more repetative as it went on. I know I’m making the show sound awful, but I can only say what I saw personally. Based on the reviews on Anime News Network I am pretty certain many disagree with my opinion. I’ll admit that everyone has their own tastes and I like to think that I’m a fan of most anime genres, and while the show itself is pretty decent I just can’t justify the high marks it gets. If I were to rate it then I’d probably say average for the show itself, and above average for the characters.

Even More New Soul Eater Dub Clips

So Funimation is releasing these clips way too fast… Okay… Maybe not, but it makes it seem like I’m posting these clips a lot lately.

We can hear Todd Haberkorn as Death The Kid along with Jami Marchi and Cheramie Leigh as Liz and Patty Thompson in the first clip.

And also Chuck Huber as the voice of Dr. Stein in the second.

We still have yet to hear the voices of the rest of the main cast: Shinigami-sama, Medusa, Chrona, Ragnorok, and the rest. Personally I’m still waiting to hear Vic Mignogna as Spirit… That should be good.

Update: The first 4 dubbed episodes of Soul Eater will begin streaming on Funimation’s video portal on Friday 13, 2009 at 11 AM CST.

AmiAmi English Site

From dannychoo: “AmiAmi has recently launched the English version of their website.”

Now you can buy your anime figures and related merchandise straight from Japan… http://www.amiami.com/shop?set=english

Taking a quick look at the site they carry all the major brands of anime figures and dolls you would expect along with games, music CDs, DVD/BR, and all the anime costume and related merchandise you can imagine

There are some good reasons to read the FAQ of the site before ordering though. First of all the prices are all in Japanese Yen (currently 99 JPY = $1 USD) and due to this they only accept Paypal since it will automatically convert the funds from dollars to yen. Also while you may notice the prices seem quite a bit lower than US based stores keep in mind that the shipping is going to easily make up the difference.

According to their FAQ shipping to the US is approximatey from 1500 JPY to 5200 JPY (about $15 – $52 USD) for single item purchases depending on size, so that 1/8 Alter Mio figure going for 5450 JPY (about $54 USD) is going to have a $20-$36 shipping charge with it bringing the total cost to around the same as US based stores are selling it for. Of course it should go without saying that returns would be a pain, so I’d suggest not buying something unless you really intend to keep it… As a matter of fact the only thing even mentioned about returns was in the case of damages, and it stated that the item must be returned within 7 days.

The only other thing that stuck out in the FAQ was that they do carry some items that are restricted to Japan only, and if you for some reason add one of these items to your cart it will cause the whole order to be cancelled, so keeping that in mind would be a good thing.
