The North American anime distributor Sentai Filmworks has announced that it will release English dubs for the Clannad, Blue Drop, Ghost Hound, Legends of the Dark King: A Fist of the North Star Story, and Tears to Tiara anime series. Seraphim Digital, the company formed from the assets of A.D. Vision’s Amusement Park Media dubbing outfit, is overseeing the dubbing process with veteran ADR directors such as Steven Foster.

Sentai Filmworks will offer an “Upgrade” program to those who already bought the subtitle-only versions of these anime titles. According to Sentai Filmworks, these releases will also be available “through broadcast, streaming and retail outlets.”

All I can say is that it’s about time… When they began releasing sub only DVDs for CLANNAD I thought for sure the only way it would ever be dubbed would be if Funimation picked it up. This is one series I really want to see what they do with, and I’ve been almost to the point of just giving in and buying the subbed DVDs, but it seems my patience has paid off. Glad to see ADV is still trying to do some good stuff. The upgrade program for those who already bought the subs is a nice touch too… I know a lot of those people were fretting over buying them and being stuck if a dub did release.

Also wanted to mention… In case the powers that be should read this before you begin the process. I was thinking about what an English cast for CLANNAD would be like, and I can imagine the roles should all be simple except one… I can’t think of a single VA that is currently working that could do Furakawa Akio justice. Every VA I can imagine would be either completely off or really goofy sounding… Then it hit me… I know of one voice that could pull that character off… Robin Williams… You guys should get him… Of course I don’t imagine you’d want to pay him the amounts that Disney does, but I honestly can’t think of anyone else that could pull off that character convincingly.
